Brafe was an early proponent of environmental management.

In 1997 the company issued a policy statement showing its commitment to key features of its management practice:

• Brafe will comply with all developing national and international environmental regulations and conduct regular reviews and audits to ensure compliance.
• Brafe will apply the best available technology, not exceeding economic cost, to achieve the most stringent environmental criteria.
• Brafe will continue to provide evidence of compliance with current and future environmental standards.
• Brafe will commit managerial resources to implement this environmental policy by introducing an effective management control system.
• Brafe will set review objectives annually.
• Brafe will monitor and report against agreed objectives.
• Brafe will seek to re-use, recycle and recover raw materials and waste.
• Brafe will seek to conserve scarce or non-renewable resources in all operations.
• Brafe will aim to maintain the highest level of control on emissions and discharges of materials to the environment and continually improve where economically viable.
• Brafe will conduct audits of procedures and practice and respond to deficiencies through a planned programme of remedial action.
• Brafe will continue to be attentive to the needs of local residents and local ecology so far as its operations are concerned.
• Brafe will seek to ensure its suppliers and contractors do not operate to environmental standards which conflict with the company’s policy.
